About the Florida Macaw Conservation Center

The Florida Macaw Conservation Center is a mission-driven organization focused on the conservation and repopulation of the endangered Scarlet Macaw. We believe that meaningful conservation requires both immediate care for individual birds and a long-term strategy for species survival.

Our work connects rescue, sanctuary care, rehabilitation, ethical breeding, education, and public engagement in one integrated conservation model. By addressing the needs of birds in human care while promoting broader conservation goals, we aim to protect Scarlet Macaws for generations to come.

The Florida Macaw Conservation Center was founded on a simple but urgent belief: endangered species need more than admiration. They need dedicated action, informed stewardship, and environments where they can safely recover and thrive.

Scarlet Macaws are among the most recognizable and beloved parrots in the world, yet they face real and ongoing threats. Habitat destruction, illegal capture and trade, and human-driven environmental pressures have contributed to the vulnerability of wild populations. At the same time, many macaws in captivity are neglected, surrendered, or kept without the specialized care they need. The motivation was a passion for working with birds, with our founder having more than 30 years of experience working with parrots of all sizes.

The Florida Macaw Conservation Center was created to respond to both realities. We are committed to conservation that is compassionate, responsible, and future-focused. Through our sanctuary and breeding program, Macaw World Florida, we provide a safe home for birds in need while supporting carefully managed conservation efforts that align with the broader goal of species preservation.

Our Structure

The Florida Macaw Conservation Center is the primary organization and conservation initiative.

Macaw World Florida is the organization’s rescue, rehabilitation, sanctuary, and breeding program.

Together, these efforts form a complete model of care and conservation:

  • The Center leads the mission, education, and conservation strategy.

  • Macaw World Florida provides direct bird care and sanctuary services.

  • Both programs support long-term repopulation goals for the Scarlet Macaw.

Why Our Work Matters

Conservation is not only about preserving numbers. It is about preserving life, biodiversity, and the relationships that hold ecosystems together. Scarlet Macaws are intelligent, social, and ecologically important birds. Protecting them means protecting part of the natural world that cannot be replaced once lost.
